Week ahead: UK employment and inflation data, US CPI and Trump interview in focus

(Sharecast News) - Financial markets' focus over the coming week will be on a raft of economic data out of the UK, which will provide greater detail as to how the economy was faring around the middle of 2024. First out, on Tuesday, will be the employment report for the month of June.

It will be followed by data for consumer and producer prices on the following day and by a first reading for second quarter gross domestic product on Thursday.

Lastly, on Friday, the Office for National Statistics will release retail sales figures covering the month of July.

In parallel to all of the above, investors will be digesting multiple key economic reports in the US and their implications for monetary policy and perhaps also how they might influence the result of the next presidential elections.

Of special importance will be the CPI report due out on Wednesday and that on retail sales on Thursday.

Also on Thursday, China's National Bureau of Statistics will release activity indicators for the month of July.

On the political side of things, an interview with Donald Trump conducted by Elon Musk, on Monday, may prove to be one of the week's main talking points.
