US open: Dow Jones on track for best monthly performance of 2024
(Sharecast News) - Wall Street stocks were in the green early on Friday as the Dow Jones headed for its best monthly performance this year. As of 1520 GMT, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.32% at 44,863.80, while the S&P 500 advanced 0.48% to 6,027.38 and the Nasdaq Composite came out the gate 0.71% firmer at 19,196.13.
The Dow opened 141.74 points higher on Friday, reversing losses recorded ahead of the Thanksgiving break.
Tech stocks were in focus at the open on Friday, with AI-darling Nvidia and Facebook parent company Meta Platforms both bouncing back from pre-market losses. Dell and HP shares were also higher in early trading, shrugging off double-digit losses before the bell on the back of weak forward earnings guidance.
On the macro front, S&P Global's manufacturing PMI rose to 48.8 in November, up from 48.5 in October, in line with market expectations.
Markets will close at 1600 GMT on Friday to allow market participants to take advantage of Black Friday.
