Week ahead: US, UK CPI in focus
(Sharecast News) - Investors' focus over the coming week will be on the inflation picture Stateside. The consumer price data for the month of December, which are due out on Wednesday, may heavily influence the near-term outlook for prices.
Also due out in the US are monthly retail sales figures and the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia's factory survey for the month of December.
Both of those reports will be forthcoming on Friday.
Remarks from a steady stream of Fed speakers will likely also be closely monitored by investors.
Against that backdrop, and following the recent rise in Gilt yields, market participants will also be digesting UK CPI data due out on Wednesday, GDP numbers on Thursday and retail sales figures on Friday.
Across the Channel, a reading on euro area CPI data for December will be published on Friday too.
In Asia, Chinese foreign trade figures for December will be released on Monday, followed by a barrage of activity indicators, also on Friday.
