US open: Stocks build on record highs
(Sharecast News) - Wall Street trading got off to a positive start on Tuesday after closing at fresh record highs in the previous session. As of 1445 GMT, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.25% at 44,405.73, while the S&P 500 advanced 0.10% to 6,007.54 and the Nasdaq Composite came out the gate 0.07% weaker at 19,311.72.
The Dow Jones opened 112.60 points higher on Tuesday, extending gains recorded in the previous session as last week's post-election rally spilt over into the new week.
Stocks were mixed in early trading, with both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite pulling back from record levels recorded after it became clear that Donald Trump's re-election victory was set to be a clear-cut and straightforward one.
On the macro front, the National Federation of Independent Business' small business optimism index increased to 93.7 in October, up from 91.5 in September and beating forecasts of 91.9 with the highest reading in three months.
Elsewhere, speeches from Federal Reserve governor Christoper Waller, Richmond Fed boss Tom Barkin and Minneapolis Fed president Neel Kashkari at 1500 GMT, 1515 GMT and 1900 GMT, respectively, will also draw an amount of investor attention.
In the corporate space, DIY retailer Home Depot said sales had grown 6.6% in Q3 as earnings came in $0.14 ahead of expectations, while Shopify delivered Q3 revenues that came in ahead of estimates.
