US open: Dow Jones extends losses at the bell
(Sharecast News) - Wall Street trading got off to a mixed start on Tuesday after both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite registered fresh record highs in December's maiden session. As of 1515 GMT, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.19% at 44,696.50, while the S&P 500 lost 0.04% to 6,044.84 and the Nasdaq Composite came out the gate 0.11% firmer at 19,425.96.
The Dow opened 85.50 points lower on Tuesday, extending losses recorded in the previous session.
Tuesday's primary focus will likely be news that job openings rose to 7.74m in October, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, up from a downwardly revised 7.37m in September and above market expectations for a reading of 7.48m. Meanwhile, the number of hires and total separations was little changed at 5.3m, with quits at 3.3m and layoffs and discharges at 1.6m.
In corporate news, shares in AI server business Super Micro Computer traded higher on the back of news that a special committee had found "no evidence of misconduct" at the firm.
Still to come, Salesforce will report earnings after the close.
