FTSE 100 movers: Rightmove rallies; Taylor Wimpey in the red

(Sharecast News) - London's FTSE 100 was up 0.8% at 8,366.62 in afternoon trade on Thursday. Property portal Rightmove was a high riser on rate cut hopes and as the latest residential market survey from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors showed the housing market ended 2024 on a strong note, with prices rising across the country.

Antofagasta was in the black as the Chilean miner reiterated its 2025 outlook, despite copper production narrowly missing forecasts.

On the downside, Taylor Wimpey retreated as the housebuilder backed its profit expectations for the full year but sounded a note of caution as it pointed to increased build costs in 2025.

Whitbread fell as the Premier Inn owner held full-year guidance and said UK accommodation sales in the Christmas/New Year period were up 2%.

Education publisher Pearson lost ground even as it reported 3% underlying group sales growth for 2024, flagging expected adjusted operating profit of £595m to £600m, up 10% year-on-year, with a margin of 16.8%.

Associated British Foods was under the cosh after Citi downgraded shares of the Primark owner to 'sell' from 'neutral' and cut the price target to 1,770p from 2,400p.
