Week ahead: US PCE inflation data, German IFO index in focus
(Sharecast News) - The outlook for inflation in the US would continue to be in focus during the last week of August. On Friday, the US Department of Commerce was scheduled to release the price deflators for personal consumption expenditures in July.
The behaviour of the core PCE price index was of particular interest, given that it was the Federal Reserve's preferred gauge for inflationary pressures.
Earlier in the week, on Monday, Commerce would publish durable goods orders data, also for July, which would help investors keep track of trends in business investment.
Germany's IFO institute would release its closely followed monthly business confidence index that same day.
It would be followed by a reading for German consumer confidence in September from consultancy GfK.
Preliminary consumer price readings for Germany and Spain in July, on Thursday, might also attract attention.
Thursday would also bring with it a raft of economic indicators out of Japan, including reports on industrial production, unemployment and consumer price inflation in Tokyo.
On home shores, Friday would bring with it figures on net consumer credit and mortgage lending covering the month of July.
